Janice Green Fine Ceramics (1947 - 2015)

Janice Green incising a pot

Throughout my life, I have been passionate about drawing and painting. When I began the study of ceramics and its varied potential, I wanted to bring nature into this work. I found inspiration all around me in the beauty of the northwest and Portland, Oregon-the lush forests and gardens, and their seasonal color changes from greens to golds and reds.

My work is influenced by Chinese master potters, who decorated life forms onto their ceramics. They incised pottery with fine lines, carved, and added forms to each piece. They covered each piece with a beautiful celadon, pale-green glaze pooling into the fine lines and accentuating the raised forms. The Chinese pottery became renowned for its craftsmanship, imagery, and style.

The teapot and teacup are my canvas for ideas, for adding plant leaves, frogs, insects, and branches to my work. Strong design and fine craftsmanship are my cornerstones.

Please take a look at the Janice's Gallery page for some examples of items that I have created.
